What is AdSense?


Google AdSense

Google AdSense is an easy way for you to make money by featuring pay-per-click ads on your website. You don't have to look for advertisers – when you join the program, AdSense automatically posts ads on your site that match your content on a page-by-page basis. You are paid whenever a visitor to your website clicks an ad on your site, and it's free to join!

You have several ad types and styles to choose from. Google Adsense offers you a choice of text ads, image ads, or a combination of both. There are banner ads that stretch horizontally across the page. There are also skyscraper ads that stretch vertically. You can display several text ads in a line. Or it can be a single large image-based ad. You can also tailor the ads so that they match the colors of your website.

 

What You'll Need

To set up an AdWords account, you'll need the following:

  • An Internet connection,
  • A web browser (like Internet Explorer or Firefox),
  • A website,
  • An email address, and
  • A bank account.

Step 1 - Start the Process

Go to the AdSense homepage and click “Click Here to Apply.”

Step 2 – Enter Your Country, Account Type, and Website Info

At the top of the application form, select your account type (either “individual” or “business” and your country). In the second section of the application form, enter your website's primary URL (ex. www.yourwebsitename.com) and your website's primary language.

Step 3 – Choose Your AdSense Products

In the AdSense “ Product Selection ” section of the application form, you'll see that both boxes are already clicked. To start with, uncheck the box next to “AdSense for Search.” You can always add this feature later if you decide you want it , but for now, we'll just go through AdSense for Content.

If you have a lot of content on your site, you might want to offer AdSense for Search. This will give you a Google Search bar right on your website that visitors can use to search through your site's content or to check out other related info on the web.
Step 4 – Enter Your Contact and Log-In Info

In the “Contact Information” section of the application form, enter all your contact info in the appropriate fields. In the “Login Information,” enter your email address and password. Be sure to re-enter the password to ensure that it's correct. If you don't want to receive AdSense's newsletter, click the box next to “Email Preference” to uncheck it. Click “Submit Information.”

Step 5 – Review Account Info

Now you'll have the chance to review the account info you have entered to ensure its accuracy. If you need to make any corrections, click “Edit Account Information.” If everything is correct, click “Create Account.”

Step 6 – Email Verification

Next, you'll be prompted to check the inbox of the email address you used in your application form. Once you've received the verification email from AdSense, click the link provided in the email to complete the process. Your Internet browser will then open to AdSense's verification confirmation page. Now you can sit back and relax, Google will review your website and then follow up with you in 1-2 days.

Step 7 – Log In to Your Account

You'll receive an email from AdSense once your application has been approved. You can then log in to your account and get started. To set up your ads, click “AdSense Setup” then on the new page, click “AdSense for Content.”

Step 8 – Choose Your Ad Type

Click to choose your ad format, either “Ad Unit” or “Link Unit.” Ad units are traditional text or image ads that appear in the size you specify. Link units display a list of topics relevant to your page. When visitors click a topic, they're taken to a page of relevant ads.

By displaying a variety of topics that the visitor can click on, these subject specific ads can be a more effective way of bringing your visitors to websites they're actually interested in.

Step 9 – Choose Ad Format and Colors

Choose your ad unit or link unit format by clicking the drop-down menu in the format section. Highlight and click your choice using your mouse. To view the different types, click “Ad Formats.” On the same page, click the drop-down menu in the color section to choose the color scheme for your ads. Scroll down and click “Continue.”

Your AdSense ads should work into your website seamlessly, blending into its design. Be sure to check out how it looks to make sure it looks good.

Step 10 – Transfer Ad Code

On a new page, a field will appear with the code for your ad. Click anywhere on this field to highlight the code then copy it by holding the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard and pressing “C.” You can now paste this copy (using Ctrl-V) on any page in your website that complies with Google's policies.
